From Scotland to the Carpathians – Tom’s Brown Bear Hunting Adventure in Romania

A Hunt That Started with a Few Emails and Ended with a Friendship

Some hunting experiences are remembered for the trophy. Others are remembered for the people, the places and the moments surrounding the hunt.

Tom’s brown bear hunting adventure in Romania became all of these.

It all started with a few emails exchanged between Scotland and Romania. Tom was looking for the opportunity to hunt a mature European brown bear in Romania and, after discussing the hunt, the organization, the documents and what he could expect from the experience, he decided to place his trust in me and hunt together with Wild Hunting in Romania.

For me, that trust is extremely important. When an international hunter travels hundreds or thousands of kilometres to Romania, he is not simply purchasing a hunting package. He is trusting us with his time, his expectations and, sometimes, with a hunting dream he has carried for many years.

October 2026 – The Adventure Begins

In October 2026, the necessary brown bear hunting authorizations became available in Romania.

After confirming the opportunity with Tom, we moved quickly. He booked his flights, while I started preparing the necessary documentation in advance so that everything would be ready for his arrival.

When the day finally came, I personally collected Tom from the airport and our Romanian adventure began.

From Bucharest, we travelled towards the mountains of Sibiu, one of the beautiful hunting regions of the Romanian Carpathians.

Our accommodation was a charming rustic guesthouse surrounded by the atmosphere of the mountains – exactly the kind of place where you immediately feel that you have left the city behind and entered a different world.

The First Evening – The Trophy of a Lifetime

The following day was dedicated to completing the final hunting formalities and preparing for the hunt.

That evening, we went out for our first hunting session.

We knew that we were hunting in an exceptional area, but in hunting nothing can ever be guaranteed. Nature decides what happens next.

And this time, everything came together perfectly.

On his very first evening of hunting in the Romanian Carpathians, Tom successfully harvested a magnificent brown bear.

It was the kind of moment every hunter hopes to experience at least once in his lifetime.

A beautiful Romanian brown bear and a trophy that Tom will remember for the rest of his life.

After the hunt, we completed all the required documentation and began preparing the trophy. The skin was carefully prepared for the taxidermist so that this exceptional animal and the memory of the hunt could be preserved properly.

The main objective of our trip had been achieved much sooner than expected.

But our Romanian adventure wasn't finished.

From Brown Bears to Dracula's Castle

With the hunt successfully completed and some free time remaining before Tom's flight home, I wanted him to discover another side of Romania.

Romania is not only an exceptional hunting destination. It is a country filled with history, traditions, mountains, castles and stories.

So our next destination was one of the most famous landmarks in the country – Bran Castle, known throughout the world as Dracula's Castle.

Together we visited the castle and enjoyed some time away from hunting, discovering a small part of Romania's history and culture.

For an international hunter visiting Romania for the first time, I believe the experience should be about more than simply arriving, hunting and returning to the airport.

I want my guests to leave Romania having experienced the country itself.

Discovering Romania's Hunting Heritage

On our journey back towards Bucharest, we made another special stop at the hunting museum in Posada.

Here, Tom had the opportunity to see an impressive collection of Romanian hunting trophies and discover more about the extraordinary wildlife and hunting heritage of our country.

Romania has produced exceptional trophies over generations, and seeing such a collection is something that any passionate hunter can appreciate.

It was the perfect addition to our Carpathian hunting experience.

One Final Romanian Experience

Before taking Tom back to the airport, there was one more stop I wanted to make.

My home.

Tom joined me and my family, where he had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Romanian food and experience some genuine Romanian hospitality.

For me, this is one of the most important parts of what we do.

Our hunters are not numbers on a booking calendar.

When someone travels to Romania and hunts alongside me, I want them to feel welcome from the moment I collect them at the airport until the moment I take them back.

Sitting together at the table, sharing food and talking about the hunt was the perfect ending to the trip.

We Started as Outfitter and Client. We Finished as Friends.

Tom arrived in Romania as my client.

He left as my friend.

And perhaps this is the part of the story that means the most to me.

Hunting brings together people from different countries, speaking different languages and coming from completely different backgrounds. But after several days travelling, hunting, eating and sharing experiences together, something changes.

The professional relationship becomes something more personal.

Because of the friendship we developed during this trip, I have already invited Tom to return to Romania in spring 2027 – this time together with his family.

But next time the destination will be completely different.

I would like to welcome them to my hunting cabin in the Great Island of Brăila, surrounded by the waters and wild landscapes of the Danube.

There we can forget about schedules for a few days.

We can fish.

We can take the boat out on the water.

We can enjoy the wildlife.

And, most importantly, we can simply spend some time together as friends.

This Is Hunting in Romania

Tom's journey from Scotland to Romania started with a few emails and the dream of hunting a Romanian brown bear.

It ended with a magnificent trophy, a journey through the Carpathian Mountains, a visit to Dracula's Castle, an introduction to Romania's hunting heritage, traditional Romanian hospitality and a new friendship.

The trophy will remain with Tom for many years.

But I hope the memories surrounding it will remain even longer.
